MEMETIC is pleased to announce yet another fantastic addition to this year’s festival: Anenon!

Despite a childhood steeped in music, Brian Allen Simon only began to appreciate his father’s records after he developed an obsession with hip hop in his teens and went to college to study music. After an intense love affair with jazz and the saxophone, an internship at seminal LA label Alpha Pup and a journey through Music History and Theory at UCLA, Brian landed at the foot of his own label, Non Projects, releasing music from artists such as Asura and Ana Caravelle along with remixes that range from Shigeto to Julia Holter. As Anenon, Brian carves out highly textured sounds that are extremely personal, patient and thoughtful – music to live inside of, always revealing new paths with each listen. Brian has shared the stage with everyone from electronic music legend Morton Subotnick to Baths and is an alumni of the 2011 Red Bull Music Academy.

You can listen to some of Anenon’s sounds here

MEMETIC is excited to bring a new angle to this years festival: the screening of the documentary Electronic Awakening!

The film features dozens of experts, visionaries, and published authors who explore the premise that Electronic Music is spiritual technology that allows access to higher states of consciousness. Filmed over a period of 5 years at events such as Burning Man, Earthdance, LoveFest, Moontribe, Wicked, Shambhala and the Boom Festival in Portugal.

Electronic Awakening reviews rave’s evolution from large-scale commercial events to smaller gatherings in remote locations. The film offers insight into the inner workings of the brain and its metaphysical connection to the repetitive beats that allow for that sense of oneness, unity and freedom that millions feel on the dance floor. It also investigates this culture’s significance to the prophecies of 2012, how this bizarre and sacral relationship to electronic music has evolved the group over time, and where it all seems to be leading them.

With world-renowned artists such as Shpongle, The Crystal Method, Vibrasphere, Random Rab, Phutureprimitive, Androcell, Bird of Prey, Sheff, Jason Knight, Govinda, Gladkill, Desert Dwellers, Eastern Sun, Solar Fields, Grouch, Satsi and many more…

Date: Thursday, June 21st
Location: Cineamatheque – 100 Arthur Street

MEMETIC is pleased to announce another fantastic addition to our 2012 lineup: My Favourite Robot

My Favorite Robot is the trio of Jared Simms, James Teej, and Voytek Korab, three Canadian DJ/producers who in a space of a few short years have become a central part of the global electronic music scene.

Simms & Korab originally formed the My Favorite Robot act in Montreal back in 2002 and the label in 2008, shortly after Jared’s move to Toronto from Montreal. At the same time, the duo hooked up with the No19 Music crew and James Teej and a new chapter in Canadian music history was born. Teej, who was already recording for Rekids and other influential imprints, soon became involved in the My Favorite Robot label and a musical affinity between himself and Simms & Korab lead to the duo becoming a trio. Whilst their good friends at No.19 went on to form the massively successful Art Department, the boys at MFR worked alongside them building their own label into a global beacon for quality electronic music.

My Favorite Robot Records has received huge critical acclaim and has released music from the likes of Tim Paris, Sasse, Nitin, Chloe, Michael J Collins, Kenny Glasgow, Jonny White, Phonogenic, The Model, Murphy Jax, & Emerson Todd to name but a few.

2011 saw My Favorite Robot releasing on Crosstown Rebels and Visionquest, remixing for Jori Hulkonnen’s Processory project and 2012 is even brighter with projects upcoming on Life & Death, Last Night On Earth, & BPitch Control. There are also plans for a series of label driven events around the globe. Already established as a force to be reckoned with it seems it is now time for the Robots to take on the world…..

Memetic is thrilled to announce yet another amazing headliner to be playing MEME 2012: Pearson Sound (UK)!

Following a momentous year of releases in 2010 and having concentrated his output under the Pearson Sound moniker, David Kennedy’s following 12 months have been just as busy; but for different reasons.

Releasing a critically acclaimed FABRICLIVE compilation in March he’s since remixed and opened for one of music’s most respected acts, Radiohead, in New York. Having travelled across Europe on the first Hessle Audio tour of the continent he’s also DJd on the London Eye, lectured at Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid and he’s constantly finding himself in new and interesting positions; whether that’s following Moodymann on a Sunday afternoon in a London basement or pre-empting Rusko at an open air festival.

Still very much a key component in the running of the Hessle Audio label, whose ‘116 & Rising’ compilation managed to emphatically collate their history whilst simultaneously looking to the future and their imminent 20th release, Kennedy’s output as Ramadanman may have ceased, but his subsequent work as Pearson Sound and as Chicago house ‘legend’ Maurice Donovan commands much the same level of gravitas with long sold out white label releases and a 12” on Night Slugs.

Musically, he’s looking forward, refusing to sit still or be easily categorised. And with his latest productions feeding more from the classic notions of 4×4 dancefloor music and his sets retaining every inch of precision and his selection spreading out further as his knowledge of music grows he has established himself as one of the UK’s most in demand artists.
